Scotland, a landscape story...

Scotland has a multitude of very different landscapes, ranging from sea to mountains, lochs and great plains. These landscapes play on the country's very particular climate as the weather can change dramatically in a matter of hours. From rain to shine, not forgetting snow in winter, the Scottish landscape is strongly marked by this harsh climate.

There are mountains within a short distance of the sea, such as around Fort William with Ben Nevis (the country's highest point) overlooking an inlet. There are also mountain ranges such as the Cairngorms and Glencoe which receive sufficient snow in winter to allow skiing. The Highlands also boast exceptional wildlife, including ptarmigan, black grouse, red deer and capercaillie.

In the west and north of the country the coast is heavily indented due to erosion caused by waves and wind, it is a wild coast.

Throughout Scotland there are hundreds of lochs large and small, the most famous being Loch Ness.
